"Work without the fear of limitation; for the compacity of creativity is limitless" ~
Fox paints whenever they find time. They will often set up a small workstation wherever is convenient. Here, they are painting in a friend's backyard while enjoying the sunshine.
Hello and Welcome! Thank you for visiting my portfolio page 🙏
I'm Fox Hauck, a queer artist based in Seattle. My work in acrylic painting centers around abstract expressionism using vivid color representations of nature through a speculative framework informed by psychology and neuroscience. My speculative focus; fueled by daydreams, small and sacred interactions with natural phenomena, is driven by synesthesia. I explore creative interpretations of natural phenoemena in my traditional artworks through phosphorescent and fluorescent pigments, adding an element of perpetual change to my pieces when they are viewed under different lighting conditions. My art delves into the mystical realms of nature and occult psychology, inviting you the viewer to experience a fusion of the seen and unseen.
My mechatronic artwork centers around themes viewed through a lens of synesthesia with natural phenomena and eclectic spirituality. I employ a creative use of the word magic to describe the phenomenological framework used by neuroscience and psychology in art and interactions that are both entertaining and accurate. My aim is to captivate and educate my viewers united under the concepts of embodiment, ecology, and speculation, inviting them to explore new modalities of being and sensing in the changing world we inhabit. I view my role as that of a stage magician, snake-oil salesman, or fortuneteller, whom instead of running off with your mind and purse, I place viewers lived experience at the forefront of my explanations of how these seemingly magical interactions operate. Explaining how mechatronic systems function to those who may not know and forwarding a sense of aesthetic mythology and curiosity in every viewer.
Though thoughtful mechatronic interactions and colorful paintings that seem to change depending on ambient light conditions, I strive to create new and authentic experiences each time an artpiece is viewed, even by the same viewer. I leave ample room for personal speculation and interpretation, inviting viewers to come away with their own emotions and thoughts about the subject matter. My hope is to inspire new ideas and entice new modes of thinking original and sacred to the individual. I want my viewers to come away feeling something new, for their spirits to be refreshed, and for their minds to be expanded.
After personal experiences with mental health began my inner journey of self discovery, I began to merge fluorescent and phosphorescent painting techniques with vibrant acrylic palettes to better illustrate my perspective. My creations, which I have named Dreamscapes, exhibit abstract visions of nature and emotions, encapsulating a spectrum of impressionist landscapes and intricate feelings through bold and vivid colors. Evoking my spiritual connection with nature and the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest serves as inspiration, guiding my approach to painting with a profound reverence for the ephemeral influence that weather and landscapes exert on human psyche. In my Dreamscapes, I harmonize color and texture to produce impressionist landscapes enriched with fantastical themes, often centering around themes in nature; motifs such as a radiant winter’s day, bold fluffy clouds, or the complicated microbiology of shadowy sewer.
I incorporate fluorescent paints and phosphorescent pigments to enhance specific areas of the painting. When exposed to ultraviolet light, the completed artwork undergoes a visual transformative process, revealing new colors and underlying shapes. The interplay of ultraviolet light imparts a shift in some paint colors towards a darker, more emotional palette, while others fluoresce dynamically, altering the composition. The addition of phosphorescent pigments results in a fairytale glow-in-the-dark effect, especially pronounced at night and in dark rooms. This way, the paintings are constantly shifting their colors throughout the day and appear different under fluorescent or natural light while sending out their own light in darker viewing conditions.
Presently, I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree at the University of Washington where I plan to further my passions for psychology, neuroscience, and comparative religion, through artistic expression. During my free time, I engage in the solitary practice of Western Occult Philosophy, offering services such as Tarot readings, astrology chart interpretations, and other various forms of divination; all in addition to accepting art commissions.
