Playing on themes of Sanctuary from 2014, Sanctuary Sewer explores a deeply introspective, verdant theme of life thriving under strange and dark circumstances. Inspired by extreme ecosystems of algae, moss, and bacteria living in storm drains and sewer pipes; this scene depicts a tunnel or cavern where storm water and debris have created a substrate on which life continues to thrive. Harkening themes of ecology and renewal; from trash-to-treasure. 🌟

Full of natural beauty, the cascade mountains ground the theme of the dynamic exchange between earth and sky; inquiring how depth and aesthetic perspectives shift thought the day and night. Rolling hills and layers of forest are complimented by a sky filled with colors and the occasional star, evoking the sky simultaneously at both dawn and at dusk.🌟
"The addition of phosphorescent pigments results in a fairytale fluorescent effect, especially pronounced at night and in dark rooms. This way, the paintings are constantly shifting colors throughout the day and appear different under fluorescent or natural light; while sending out their own light in darker viewing conditions. This shift stands out to me as a natural phenomenon that represents temporality -- the passage of time -- and how changing light shifts spatial awareness"

A macabre scene depicts the unfolding of being– a humble bird, undergoing a phoenix transformation. Its colorful body is dissolving into vivid smoke and dust that contribute to an ecosystem of near-impossible color combinations. A vignette of shadow blends dusk and dawn into a tunnel shape. Where does it go? The animus of the bird is reimagined, becoming a part of the sky transcending a dark, heaping foreground. 🌟

A vibrant display of springtime colors dance amidst a shadowy purple background in this small portrait of wildflowers. Warm winds blow about freely spreading seeds of color and hope in a chaotic, blistery meadow. Here, polygonal shapes pay homage to the geometrical shapes of flowers. UV light reveals a lively atmosphere of pollen and seeds. 🌟
A twin painting in this series was done in the same composition style and painting technique. It now hangs in the home of Fox's grandmother in Fargo, North Dakota.Â

Inspired by temperatures during the winter months in the pacific northwest, 'Icy Water' describes in colorful detail a melody of natural textures associated with the cold half of the year; when sleet falls on dormant patches of moss. In this painting, hexagonal patterns and spatters suggest a theme of perfect, yet fragile symmetry that exists within a snowflake. UV light activates phosphorescent pigments to highlight natural geometry within ice. 🌟Â
A companion painting in this series was done in the same composition style and painting technique. It now hangs in the home of Fox's grandmother in Fargo, North Dakota.

Angular shapes with spatters flash and blow about above a bright patch of grass, California Poppies and Sweet Peas bloom freely; symbolic of life's spontaneity.
Maybe fluorescent plankton, jellyfish and corals fill an ocean of life at night.

"The dramatic shit in color when illuminated by UV flourescent bulbs creates a whole new aethstetic, allowing for multiple interpretations unified in one artwork. Thats perhaps the beauty of abstract expressionalism, but I attribute it in part to synesthstisia espescially when the viewer begins to immerse themselfes within the dreamscape, where other sensory information comes as a result of imagination." ~ Fox
Blotchy shapes stand on leggy stems as they grow out of the cool, moist earth, resembling red tulips growing in spring. Watery pools and drips in the background suggest the impression of a light rain on moist garden soil, ice and snow still lurk in the shadows. Other flowers, leaves and grass flourish in the foreground of this springtime scene. Different colors pop when viewed under changing lighting conditions while little seed dots glow-in-the-dark, symbolizing the dynamic energy latent within nature during this season. 🌟

This atmospheric scene draws inspiration from the fleeting essence of fairies—minor devas whose radiant presence exists briefly in the minds of nature’s admirers. Ghostly figures emerge from shadowy leaves, swirling mist and dewdrops, while shimmering hues of orange and pink flicker like an otherworldly fire, shifting under the changing changing diurnal light. 🌟
Sunbeams mingle with snow and rain in an impressionistic winter scene. Different textures and temperatures of ice and water mix and collide in a colorful impression of local Seattle weather. Under UV light, the scene transforms to reveal bright areas of glowing pigments, representing the glowing auras of city lights reflecting off low-lying clouds. 🌟

Inspired by readings in Advaita Vedanta or non-dualism in nature, this scene seeks to emote balance and harmony though impossible combinations. A hot desert full of colorful flowers after cool rain. A soothing bright sun shining amongst the other stars in a nighttime sky. A syzygy of midnight and daylight fuse whimsically in this magical landscape.
Acrylic on 16 x 20" canvas
The playful gravity of gascious clouds and the formation engine of stars coaellece into a brightly colored nebulae. Stars and spatters are slung across the layers of void and matter, some flourescent while others remain shadowy and deep; inspiring reflection on the non-duality of material nature and the effect of perception on reality.
This painting was a housewarming gift to one of Fox's closest friends in Seattle Washingtion. It now hangs in their house, in a computer room lit by color changing LEDs that further accenttuate its flourescent proporties.Â

Sanctuary, 2014 Acrylic on Masonite 24 x 20" board
Painted at my childhood home in Ellensburg, Washington in the summer of 2014. This painting represents a verdant sanctuary of hope for a bright future from within a deep, introspective and shadowy refuge.Â
This painting was a gift to Fox's first boyfriend.
Fox has taken inspiration from this piece and reimagined it in "Sewer/Sanctuary (2) 2024".
